Auguries Of Innocence
William Blake’s poem Auguries of Innocence is printed here with each couplet organised on opposite margins. This reveals a spine-like river of negative space in the body of the poem giving form to the duality of its themes and imagery.
It is set in 6pt universe metal type and printed in copper gold ink on Soft white Somerset Velvet, and green or purple on Fedrigoni Materica-Clay paper stock. The print measures approx 29 x 15cm and comes unmounted.
It isn’t always easy to appreciate the practicalities of working with small type so here are a couple of videos. No matter how carefully the type is set a few errors always seem to creep and need correcting. Sometimes its spelling mistake, a letter set upside down or a damaged letter needs replacing. Time to get the tweezers out! After the print run is finished and the type cleaned the reverse process needs to happen, time to pop some soothing music on and put all those letters away again.
